WHAT!?!? rent is a great play!
oh, and if you cant get a job because your an artist,
you oughta try to make a way to make money of your art, at least.

These people are saying RENT is a stupid play about people who don’t get jobs because they are artists and stuff

  3. miztahfrawg says:

    Bernice

what on earth are you guys going on about?

How come hardly any of you can understand that ART IS A JOB!!!! The characters in RENT are artists. That is their job. That is what they do. I wouldn’t work in an office if what I wanted to do was work as a lighting designer, which is an art. Why do sooooooooo many people have a problem with art? ART IS THE BACKBONE OF SOCIETY! Without art, this YouTube page wouldn’t be here. The phone you have wouldn’t be created. The churches you all slave over wouldn’t be there! ART IS SO IMPORTANT. know that

The original Sweeney Todd won many awards, including BEST MUSICAL at the Tony’s and lost every cent it made, the investors lost loads of money, it was an award winning flop!! Also, the Tony’s are issued the year of the shows opening, and at the opening is when the show is judged, so how would the league know the success of it that soon? It may be narrow minded, but everything is, like you are. Many people are pure artists. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THAT! Don’t you understand that ART IS A JOB TOO?

Getting a job in NYC is like hitting the lottery? Not everybody in NYC is trying to be a fucking painter, there are actually people who get real jobs there, it’s how the city survives. And if you had a job in the 90s, you didn’t have health care because it didn’t exist? And the Tonys, like every other award show, are so narrow minded they shouldn’t judge the success of a play. You are telling me a play can only be successful if it’s actually on Broadway?

I know it didn’t win any of them, and that is fine, but it played for more than a year, unlike TWS! Also, LBTM was nominated for more!

The RENT songs won’t die! EVER!

LBTM songs were used as instrumentals in the TONY awards theme too!

amen LegalllyBroadway and what did Wedding Singer win oh non of those HAHAHAHAH somes to show whata shows does and what it means is worth more than dumb costumes and a movie script and songs that oh cool for 1 day and the next yup thats old RENT songs never die

You know what alteast in retn its real life and real people based on real people in the lfie of its writer. OH AND ATLEAST RENT ISN’T BASED ON A MOVIE its based on a world reknown and loved opera and story of Jonathan Larsons friends and family and himself

  11. Fiyero06 says:

WELL helathcare to the unemployed in 1990s didn’t excist and hello have u never been to NYC to get a job there is like hitting the lottery. And treatment for aids back in the 1990s was a fucking pill you can’t prevent and we probably wont’ be able to in our lifetime. When u can see a New Yorker who lives in a slum who has healthcare and a good doctor and money for a hospital u let me know pal

  12. Fiyero06 says:

    Bruce

to some people The Arts is a actual service to the public because through dance and music they portray life. politics is corrupt and religion is for religious people and there are some jobs that don’t do a darn thing for people

  13. Fiyero06 says:

    Lisa

actally all the characteres of rent are based on real life people that Jonathan Larson knew very personally and in every character he put himself in them so don’t say they are fake because to Jonathan Larson and his friends they were very real

Read your message over and review it before you send it! That made no sense.

“because laura what the **** her name is got nominated so if they wanted to they could have nominated it but they didnt”

Sure, I know what that means!!!

  15. LEGALLYbroadway says:

    Lucy

No way! If you know anything about Theatre, you should know that the TONY awards are not the biggest award a theatre production can receive…. Drama Desk is bigger, for me at least!

LBTM was nominated for 24 awards in TOTAL!

    16 for this show…. total!

Sooooo, I guess the critics and the Theatre League like LBTM a little better, no “so much better!”

  16. LEGALLYbroadway says:

    Rhonda

suuurrrreeee. I know it isn’t as good as RENT, but I like fun!

  17. LEGALLYbroadway says:

    Edith

They would rather die than not do what they are meant to do.

  18. LEGALLYbroadway says:

    Chad

Really? Sooooo, religion is better? Politics? I **** the world that you live in!

Finger painting? I feel sorry for you!!!

  19. flapintapper says:

    Dana

and ur wrong about that because laura what the **** her name is got nominated so if they wanted to they could have nominated it but they didnt

and the only awards that count are the tony awards so get your 24 awards bull **** out of here

  20. flapintapper says:

    Amber

yeah but legally blonde still sucks

okay but the thing is that Rent portrays real life situations they don’t dance and sing happy go lucky up beat songs they speak the truth about living life in a run down place.

And for the record, I never said Wedding Singer was better than Rent. Only reason I’m on this video is because I enjoy this song. I just saw people bickering about how Rent is the best and it’s annoying to hear people idolizing fake characters who glorify people who don’t work for a living, use drugs, and fail to do anything for themselves despite dying. These characters would rather die than work, and that’s the sad thing.

  23. joshbradybuddy says:

And I laugh at art being the most important thing in society. Art is a hobby…politics, religion, and jobs where you perform actual services for people are just a sample of things more important than theather/singing/finger painting, which are all in the same category.

Rent makes a life of squating, drugs, and sexual diseases look glorious. It gives an unrealistic view on a very important topic, which if you ACTUALLY care about those things, you should learn from somewhere other than a play

  24. joshbradybuddy says:

    Ralph

AIDS is a serious issue, I agree. You know what could of helped the characters who had AIDS? If they had jobs and had health care, that way instead of complaining (Yes, complaining, the entire play was a bitch-fest) they could of actually been treated. But that’s the trade off, don’t work because you are lazy and unmotivated and die when you get a disease. It was definately worth it.

  25. LEGALLYbroadway says:

    Carla

Rent has heart, and a soul.

I am proud that Broadway had one, but shows like The Wedding Singer make the real love on broadway burn out
